Spice for Life - Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne Pepper powder comes from  Red Hot Chili Peppers. The chili peppers are ground then sold as Cayenne Pepper powder. Originating from Cayenne in  French Guiana,  these truly amazing peppers are now being grown in many places around the world.

The Hunzas, Aztecs and Mayans all used Cayenne Pepper in their diets. Thankfully, the rest of the world has discovered Cayenne Pepper's culinary appeal and it's extraordinary  health benefits.

It's most therapeutic ingredient is "Capsaicin". The more capsaicin, the hotter the chili. The hotter the chili, the more healing properties the chili contains. Ounce for ounce, chili contain nine times the vitamin A of a green pepper and twice as much vitamin C as an orange. It is also high in minerals which include magnesium and potassium.

Cayenne Pepper is used by many to effectively prevent, treat and cure many common diseases, including breast, lung, prostate, and bladder cancers among others. It  also is used effectively for stopping heart attacks,  reducing nerve and muscle pain, in weight control, reducing symptoms of cluster and migrane headaches, preventing blood clots, improving cholesterol health, reducing heart rate, healing ulcers,  plus many others.

If you are not used to the hottness of Cayenne Pepper, but want to take a daily supplement of it, you may find it helpful to try taking it as a capsule first, then change over to just the powder when you are used to it. Many recommend a one-half teaspoon of powder in a warm cup of water daily for the most benefit. However, capsules have shown to be just as therapeutic, but without  having to experience the hottness factor.

If you are not used to eating or taking Cayenne Pepper, be aware that for about the first 3 consecutive days, you may experience some mild nausia as the Capsaicin begins the healing process within your body. Once the first 3 days is over you will begin to feel really good and your body will have gained a tolerance to the heat of the capsaicin.

KINDLE EDITION - Vintage Ice Creams, Heirloom Recipes. Available Now!

I have finally published my very first Kindle Edition eBook during December 2011. The eBook itself was written 3 1/2 years ago by myself.  I'm so excited  because with Kindle Publishing I now have the opportunity to offer it for sale worldwide in the Kindle Store on Amazon.com.  So far the Amazon Kindle Store sales have been an unexpected surprise.

"Vintage Ice Creams, Heirloom Recipes"  shares many interesting facts about the history of ice cream. It   gives the reader our coveted family heirloom recipe for homemade ice cream and how to easily make it in your very own kitchen with ingredients that you mostly likely already obtain. There is an additional section which features over 14 different flavor variations of the original  heirloom recipe including Chocolate Chip, Raspberry, Lemon, Peach, Strawberry and more.

With the new Kindle Fire now available, readers will be able to take advantage of the color photos, etc. Those with the regular Kindle will also be able to enjoy a nice reading experience, but with color features shown in grayscale.  *If you don't have either type of Kindle you can read Kindle eBooks with all of the color features on your Iphone, Droid phone, many other smart phones, Ipad or on your computer.

I just love Kindle books because they can be downloaded  and read immediately for pennies.  Our family usually gives out a few Amazon gift cards each year just for that purpose. It makes a nice added low cost gift  to the recipient. It also gives our elderly or handicapped family members and friends  an easy way to obtain quality reading material at a low cost without ever leaving their house.

Now that I've learned how to format my eBooks for Kindle Publishing I will be looking forward to writing many more eBooks and adding them to the Kindle Book Store collection. I've also just learned that Amazon has a program to download and sell blogs too. I guess one of these days I may try that!

"Vintage Ice Creams, Heirloom Recipies" is part of the Kindle Owner's Select Lending Program for Amazon Prime members for the next 90 days. That means if you are an Amazon Prime member my book is available for lending free for the next 90 days. If you are not an Amazon Prime member you can still purchase it  for download to read on any Kindle reading device, computer and many smartphones at any time.

You may learn more about "Vintage Ice Creams, Heirloom Recipes"  by visiting the Amazon Kindle Store Here.

Spice for Life - Celery Seed

Celery Seed comes from a plant called "Wild Celery" or "Smallage"  which is grown in India and Europe. It looks quite like our garden variety of celery, except it is very bitter and only the seeds are edible. Most of the celery seeds that are imported into the U.S. are imported from India.

The seeds of Wild Celery or Smallage are bitter when eaten in the raw state. However, when they are cooked they take on a whole new sweet flavor. Even though Celery Seed has been used since the Middle Ages as a spice, you may be surprised to find that it has actually been used as a traditional medicine for many hundreds of years earlier as an anti-inflammatory.

Here is a brief list of medical conditions that many feel Celery Seed is beneficial to treat or prevent:

*Gout Pain(high uric acid in the body)
*Fibromyalgia Pain
*Arthritis, osteo and rheumatoid(pain)
*Ulcers
*Menstrual cramps
*Cholesterol(high bad HDL)
*Liver disease
*Stroke
*Vaginal yeast infections and other fungus
*Hypertension ( high blood pressure)
*Mosquito bites

When planning your next meal you can use Celery Seed in  complement to these other ingredients:

*Turmeric                                       *Cinnamon
*Allspice                                         *Fennel Seed
*Sage                                              *Ginger
*Coriander                                      *Black Pepper
*Chile                                             *Cumin
*Caraway                                        *Chicken
*Tomato                                          *Fish
*Eggs                                              *Chutneys
*Soups/Stews                                  *Salad Dressings
*Pickles                                           *Cole Slaw
*Herbal Teas                                    *Potato
*Salads                                             *Fruit
*Tuna                                               *Dairy

When purchasing Celery Seed you may find it beneficial to buy them in the "whole" state. Once the tiny seeds are ground their volatile oils that are good for you begin to dissipate. Whole seeds will keep well for a minimum of approximately two years, but ground celery may be kept for only a few months.
